Anglers along Snakeden Branch in 2016, seven years after restoration

Anglers along Snakeden Branch in 2016, seven years after restoration

On Saturday, March 18, 2017, Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), along with Reston Association (RA), Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF), Northern Virginia Trout Unlimited (NVATU), and the Wildlife Foundation of Virginia will sponsor the 7th Annual Reston Kids’ Trout Fishing Day.

Hundreds of rainbow trout will be stocked in a section of Snakeden Branch between Soapstone Drive and Lake Audubon that WSSI restored in the spring of 2009 as part of the Northern Virginia Stream Restoration Bank. Children ages 2 – 12 are invited to fish for free between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon. Participants will each have the chance to keep up to four fish. See the location map for information on where to park, register, and fish.

Volunteers from WSSI, RA, DGIF, and NVATU will be on hand to help with fishing, baiting hooks, and cleaning your catch. Additionally, there will be a limited number of fishing rods available for use; bait will be provided. To register (and to reserve a fishing rod for your child if needed) you can click here. Please register by March 15 to allow sponsors to gauge the amount of supplies that will be needed.

This event offers a unique opportunity for local children to experience the outdoors in a way in which they may not normally have the chance. For additional information, please contact Scott Petrey or Alex Chapla.
